An Advice On Pregnancy Nutrition

Regular nutrition is pretty different from pregnancy nutrition. A woman who is used to eating healthy natural food, will usually understand pregnancy nutrition better and she will make the right food choices. Yet, for other women the nine months of pregnancy may be a fight against junk food or a surrender to it. Natural food is the essence of pregnancy nutrition, and ‘natural’ means little processed, free of colorants, preservers and additives.

A pregnant woman has special nutritional needs. More basic nutrients such as probiotic, minerals and vitamins etc…and calories are necessary on a daily basis, and these can only be taken from a balanced diet that includes plenty of dairy products, protein, vegetables and fruits, pasta and breads and healthy fat from hazelnuts, nuts, organic almonds, seeds and cold-pressed oils. You can learn more about pregnancy nutrition from the many guides available in books or online. Here are some of dos and don’ts of pregnancy nutrition.

Raw eggs as prepared in mayonnaise or eggnog are dangerous because they can contain salmonella,   a bacterium that can cause digestive infections.

Ocean fish accumulates mercury in the tissues, and this mineral is highly toxic for both you and your baby.

Raw fish like in sushi dishes is one other example of foods that can make you ill.

Alcohol, caffeine, soft drinks, junk food and sweets are very far from what we’d call healthy pregnancy nutrition.

Keep a middle course for your pregnancy nutrition and there won’t be any problems. You can have an ice-cream or a bar of chocolate when you crave for it, but these are not substitutes for healthy meals. Give your baby quality nutrients not pseudo-foods that only contain calories. Thus, only calories from nutritive foods are acceptable.

Although junk food abounds in calories it cannot satisfy the energy needs of your body. Depending on the pregnancy stage, the specificity of pregnancy nutrition will differ a lot. The food choices are limited to what the body tolerates during the first months of pregnancy when you experience morning sickness.

Pregnancy nutrition improves with the second trimester, when you will feel a lot of energy and you will eat heartily. This is the perfect time to give your body plenty of quality nutrients to grow your baby well.
