Being pregnant doesn’t mean you have to stop breastfeeding your child. Long ago doctors believed it actually took nutrients away from the baby inside you, however that is not the case. Even today we have people that believe this and they will argue with you the entire time. Only you can decide if you should stop breastfeeding your toddler or not. Don’t let someone else make that decision for you.

Reasons to Stop
A few reasons you might want to stop breastfeeding may be if you are feeling constantly drained of energy. Or maybe your child has started to bite. Sometimes your milk will just dry up, this is your body’s way of telling you that it has had enough and to take a break. Mastitis could play a big role in making you stop immediately as well. Mastitis is an infection in the breast when it isn’t expressed enough and gets engorged.

Stopping or Weaning
If you do plan on stopping because you are pregnant, make sure it is for the right reasons. If your child has reached a certain age, it might be best. But never just yank it away from them. Your child could wonder why it is being taken away. Wonder if they had done something or become discouraged about the new baby coming. Some children decide to wean themselves, which is a big help to you and you won’t feel so guilty about it. You can choose to do it cold turkey, or slowly wean him/her off. Cold turkey can have some bad results. Try limiting his/her feeding times to certain hours and gradually as time passes take away more. Your child will quickly stop on his/her own and it won’t be a traumatic event.

Continuing to Feed
If you do plan on continuing to breastfeed while you are pregnant, talk with your doctor about it. Not all the time will the doctor agree with your decision. Sometimes he/she may see something in your health that you don’t. Listen carefully and find out if it is a health reason or simply his/her own belief. If it is the doctors belief, you can always seek out one that agrees with you. Being pregnant is hard enough at times, knowing you have someone in your corner will only relieve the stress. Don’t be surprised if your family and friends want to say something about it and they will probably give you all kind of advice on how to stop and what they’ve read. Nicely explain to them it is your decision and you’ll do what you think is best for your children. Try finding a support group in your area so you have someone to vent to or talk about these issues. Check out if there is a La Leche League near you or online that you can join.

Remember that as long as you take proper care of yourself and your body, you’ll be able to safely breastfeed while pregnant.

There is nothing more stressful than to have something go wrong during pregnancy. It doesn’t matter if it is your first time being pregnant or your fourth. There are many things to be concerned about during your pregnancy and it is easier when you know what they are.

Vaginal bleeding- This may also known as spotting, but make sure that is what is going on. There is a difference between actively bleeding and spotting. Spotting is lightly bleeding kind of like your period, the blood can be red, pink or even brown. If you are bleeding actively with any pain call your doctor, if you can’t get a hold of him go immediately to the emergency room. Bleeding can be a number of things from implantation, ectopic pregnancy, labor, infection or even miscarriage. Always let your doctor know, so everything can be ruled out, you’ll feel better too.

Stomach pain or cramping- During the pregnancy it may be hard to decipher the difference between a growing pain and an actual stomach pain/cramping. However, if you do get a pain of any sort rest. After a few minutes if it doesn’t subside, call your doctor and describe the pain to him. Don’t worry about it if you find out you only had gas or were having Braxton hicks contractions, at least you know everything is okay with pregnancy.

Gush of liquid- This could mean you are in labor and that your water broke, however if it isn’t close to the time of birth it can be something else. Call your doctor immediately and head for the emergency room.

Dehydration- While you are pregnant it is easy to become dehydrated, especially if you have morning sickness or just don’t drink those 8 glasses of water. If you find yourself pale, dry mouth or dizzy, you could be dehydrated and should be seen by a doctor. Dehydration can cause premature labor and/or distress on the pregnancy.

Painful urination – Could be a urinary tract infection, also known as UTI. This can be easily treated with medication or by drinking lots of fluids and cranberry juice. A urinary tract infection isn’t something to be embarrassed about, it is very common amongst pregnant women. The growing belly pushes against your ureters and makes it harder for it to flow through. Which of course can cause infection. Another way to find out if you have it is if you have a foul odor when you pee.

Pregnancies can be scary enough, there’s no reason to add to it. If you are ever in doubt or have a concern talk with your doctor. It is common that first time moms are worried about many pains that they feel. Never fear calling because you are afraid of waking the doctor up or because you feel silly. Being silly might just save the baby. While you are worrying, you are only causing stress on you and the baby, find out what’s wrong and relieve your anxiety.

It’s very important to watch what you eat. You are eating for two—which doesn’t mean that you eat more (so say goodbye to that second slice of cake), but that you eat smart. You are your baby’s only source of nutrients, and you need the proper balance of proteins, vitamins, minerals, fiber and carbohydrates.

That being said, most prenatal dieticians strongly advise against adhering to a strict no-carb diet. Without sufficient carbs, your body will produce a by-product called ketones during your blood stream, which can put your baby at risk for brain damage.

But what about low carb diets? Aside from the risk of mental retardation, there are some aspects of low carb diets that can worsen the discomforts of pregnancy. For example, low carb diets tend to have low levels of dietary fiber, which exacerbate the constipation that many pregnant moms suffer because of the required iron supplements. Also, most prenatal dieticians recommend taking a lot of fruit because of its rich vitamin content, but most of the items you’ll find in a typical shake are banned by Atkins and South Beach because of the sugars.

But some doctors may recommend taking modified low-carb diets, especially if you are obese, suffer from gestational diabetes or low blood sugar. All three conditions have been proven to have adverse affects on the baby (including prematurity, birth defects, and early rupture of the membranes) so losing weight or controlling intake may actually be the best thing for your baby.

If you are asked to go on a low-carb diet during pregnancy, you will probably be told to go on the maintenance phase of the Atkins Diet, or the second phase of the South Beach Diet. Here, you are allowed a controlled number of carbohydrates, usually from whole grains and fruits, while minimizing white bread, white rice, and pasta. That is fine, as you are still giving your baby the adequate nutrients, while removing processed foods.

If you are not allowed to go low-carb, but still need to control your weight, there are some options open to you. First of all, eat small but frequent meals. If you want a snack, instead of taking junk food or processed meats (which have a lot of calories, but significantly less nutrients), take salads, fruits, nuts and crackers. Choose lean cuts of meat, and minimize salt and rich sauces during cooking. And while you do need carbohydrates, take in moderation. One plate of pasta is good, three servings of it smothered in white sauce is not.

But the most important thing to remember is that before you go on any diet during pregnancy consult your obstetrician-gynaecologist. She or he can properly determine the best course of action given your particular medical history and the condition of your baby. Do not go on any weight management program without the advice and the approval of your doctor. Whether it’s low carb or Zone or the Mediterranean Diet, the point is that there is a proven link between prenatal nutrition and the baby’s health. Complications can include low birth weight, birth defects, and early delivery.

Pregnancy is defined as ‘the period from conception to birth when a woman carries a developing fetus in her uterus’. Let us see some of the common symptoms of pregnancies among women.

Missing the period is the most common sign and indication of pregnancy. However a variety of other reasons such as stress, illness, and weight fluctuations etc also can cause the late or missed periods. Missing periods normally can also be a symptom of polycystic ovary syndrome, a condition in which periods can occur months apart. Hence one has to observe rather examine the other symptoms to confirm the pregnancy. Another important symptom of pregnancy is the change in the size and feel of the breast immediately after the conception. Breasts begin to enlarge to get ready for breast feeding and women claim that the breasts become sensitive and they experience a very sharp and twinkling sensation.
.
Another most common symptom of pregnancy is nausea and vomiting normally seen among women. This is also known as morning sickness. A feeling of sickness is also being experienced by most women from the fifth and sixth week of the pregnancy. The morning sickness can start as early as 2 weeks of pregnancy.. The degree of nausea and vomiting differs from person to person. Mostly this symptom may disappear after period of 3 to 4 months. Most of the pregnant woman experience tiredness and fatigue.

Frequent urination is also a common feature among pregnant women within 2-3 weeks after consumption due to the reduction in the size of the bladder . Drastic change in the taste and smell is also another factor resulting in craving for certain foods and start hating certain other types of food. All the above symptoms though normally confirm the pregnancy a clinical cal test is the ultimate proof.

One can confirm pregnancy by conducting the small home pregnancy test by detecting the level of HCG in the urine and if the result is positive one may need to make an appointment with family doctor to confirm the pregnancy and to start the follow up. Like the home pregnancy test the office urine test also confirms pregnancy by detecting the level of HCG in the urine.

Similarly a blood test can also be made that may give a positive or negative results normally conducted when there are apprehensions of miscarriage or unusual pregnancy. After a period 0f 4 to 6 weeks the obstetrician can confirm the pregnancy by a physical examination. The thickening of the vaginal tissues and softening uterus confirms the pregnancy.

The Early Signs Of Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a joyous, yet complicated situation. At the end of the day, every woman is different, making it very difficult to predict potential pregnancy. If you think that you may be pregnant or are currently trying to conceive a child, have a look at some information on the early signs of pregnancy.

When conception occurs, there are many different lifestyle changes that must take place in order to protect the health of the child. For this reason, early detection is extremely important so that a mother can begin making the necessary changes. Take a look at some of the early signs, and if you exhibit these signs, take a pregnancy test to confirm conception or visit a doctor.

The most popular indicator of a pregnancy is abnormal menstrual flows or an absent period all together. This is extremely popular, however, many factors can cause this symptoms. Influencing factors can include illness, weight problems, and stress among others. This can be an indicator, but it is not foolproof.

Another early sign may come in the form of nausea or vomiting by the mother. This manifestation can be relatively mild, but can also be somewhat severe. Another aspect can be changes in the breasts, meaning that the breasts may become larger or sore. Some say that they can “feel” pregnant, however, many things can cause this feeling.

There are other signs as well, one of these being a change in urinary habits. This means a possible increase in the frequency or urgency of using the bathroom. Another sign is fatigue or a general lack of energy. Some will have unusual food cravings that would not be typical under normal circumstances.

A possible pregnancy can be very exciting, however, many of the more popular symptoms tend to be misunderstood. The only true way of confirming conception lies in a consultation with a doctor who can detect fetal heartbeats or use ultrasound technology for confirmation.

When a woman resolves to have a baby, the initial query she is likely to make is: “what are easy ways become pregnant fast?” Since a woman can only fall pregnant for a few days each month, it is usual that she would desire to exploit her chances of conceiving as speedily as possible.

Before you endeavour to conceive fast, it is needed to understand what “fast” is. It is extrmemly doubtful that you will get pregnant in the first month of trying, but not impossible. The older you are the longer and harder it will be for you to become pregnant and the higher the chances that you will struggle to get pregnant.

Typically, it takes women in their early twenties four to five months to five months to become pregnant. When in their late twenties, it can take between five to seven months toconceive and seven to ten months when in their early thirties. In their late thirties, it can take women ten to twelve months or longer to fall pregnant.

So “how can I fall pregnant?”, you might ask. There are several things you can do to be certain that both you and your partner are at peak fecundity – remember, lack of pregnancy may not always be an issue with the female. Your partner has a large part to play as well.

1. Medical Check Up.
In order to be certain that everything is alright, visit your doctor for a complete check-up. While there, query about any prescription drugs you may be taking and whether or not they may inhibit fertility or potentially damage your baby when you become pregnant.

2. Maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle.
Cut down on foods that are rich in sugar and fat, as well as processed foodstuffs. Eat plenty of starchy foods, dairy products, protein rich foods and fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoidcoffee, smoking and alcohol as these can increase infertility and potentially harm the foetus when you do {conceive|fall pregnant|become pregnant|get pregnant}.

3. Make Love.
That may sound exceeding obvious, but I’m not just saying have sex. Don’t let having sex become a job or an onus, although you do need to have sex regularly especially when you are most fertile. Feeling pressured to perform can result in a lack of performance and also reduce the chances of becoming pregnant.

4. Avoid Stress and Exercise Regularly.
While I know this is much easier said than done, while trying to fall pregnant, it is vital to get rid of as many sources of stress from your life as you can. Studies show that stress can affect your your hormone regulation, your menstrual cycles and your blood pressure. It is necessary to note that stressing or obsessing about conception has the same effect as other causes of stress. Regular exercise can assist with decreasing your stress levels as well as keep you healthy and maintain your weight. This is necessary as women who weigh too much (i.e. have a high Body Mass Index) have a harder time becoming pregnant than women with a normal Body Mass Index do.

In this article I will be writing about my sister’s quest to have a baby – you may think that this is some what bizarre however my sister, who is called Annie, had major problems in conceiving and there were many a time when she and her husband (Ron) believed that there must be something physically wrong with one or both of them. They are now the proud parents of baby Chloe and therefore this article has a happy ending – I therefore hope that it will prove to be an inspiration to those of you out there who are also struggling to conceive.

My sister and Ron became husband and wife after dating for seven years. This was nine years ago and it was very evident that to complete the “family jigsaw”, so to speak, that they would have loved to bring a new born baby into the world.

Two years after becoming married the pair of them were becoming some what frustrated at the lack of luck etc. During one evening out together Annie spoke of her desire to become a mother, about the fact that she believed that she and her husband would make good loving parents and about her frustrations of not being able to conceive.

They went to seek help by way of a consultant gynaecologist and went through all of the usual type of medical tests. They were informed that everything physically was fine for each of them and that there should be no reason whatsoever as to why a baby should not be forthcoming sometime in the future.

Another two years later and still no joy – so as you can imagine the frustrations began to build. They then went to an egg donation clinic to look into this option – they also thought about fostering.

But finally, last year, the great news arrived that Annie was pregnant – she and Ron were very very happy as they continue to be today.

Fertility Tests For Women

There are several different fertility tests for women, several of which can be done at home. The others need to be administered by a physician or other qualified medical expert.

Tests that can be used at home:

1. Body Basal Temperature:

Are you aware that when you ovulate, your body temperature increases very minutely? By monitoring your temperature daily, you can identify whether you ovulate on a regular basis and when your ovulation time is, i.e. when you are most fertile. It is possible to buy a digital basal thermometer that can tell your temperature with unbelievable accuracy. i.e. to a hundredth of a degree.

2. FSH Test:

This test appraises your egg supply by determining your levels of a hormone which stimulates the follicles. You can complete this test at home on day 3 of your cycle using the FSH test strips.

3. Ovulation Predictor Test:

This test requires that you expose the stick indicator to urine as if for an at home pregnancy test. This test calculates the levels of lutenizing hormone present in your urine. You are thus able to identify when you are ovulating as during ovulation, the levels of this hormone will increase. If you see no change in the levels of this hormone, you may have an ovulatory condition.

4. OV Watch:

This is a relatively new fertility test for women. This test needs to be worn on your wrist next to your skin as it resembles a watch. It will then monitor the levels of sodium chloride ions that are released by your skin. The number of these ions being emitted will increase dramatically as ovulation nears. The watch remembers the level of these ions and will inform you of four fertile days before ovulation and a single fertile day after you ovulate.
